Creative collaboration

Our Process

Our goal is to ensure that you and your team are informed, engaged, and included at every step of your project.

Step One

Creative/Strategic Consult Meeting

This meeting is the starting base point of your project. fLO’s team will meet with your team to discuss the strategic and creative components of your video.

Dana Hooper, Executive Director, Oakland Strokes

The video has been working great for us in our school presentations; it is much more functional and directed towards new rowers than our previous piece.  The greatest thing I took from going through the process with you is understanding the difference between why someone decides to try the sport versus what someone in the sport thinks is cool about it during the Creative/Strategy meeting.  That has totally changed the way I speak about rowing at the school events before and after showing the video. I feel like I have that conversation with my coaching staff at least twice a week, particularly in the beginning of the season.

"

Step Two

Pitch Session

Once fLO has received acknowledgement from you regarding the summary of the Creative/Strategic Consult Meeting, fLO will then provide 3 high-level concept ideas or “pitches” to the client presented either in person or via teleconference.  These pitches describe the general tone, look, story, and intent of the concept. fLO also provides pros and cons of each pitch as fLO sees them. These pitches are based upon the results of the Creative/Strategic Consult Meeting.

Sometimes a single pitch will stand out or other times it may be a combination of pitch ideas.

Once a pitch is chosen, fLO can then create a written treatment.

Elaine Welch, CEO , Mobility Matters

One of the reasons we picked fLO to work with was we wanted a creative collaborative partner that brought fresh ideas to the table. The pitches they presented for our project all had merit and related to different aspects of our goal and strategy. Although initially we wanted a more “heartstrings-pulling” approach, the pitch we ultimately selected highlighted the fun and enjoyment of being a volunteer with our organization, which has turned out to be a great tool in our volunteer-building efforts.

"

Step Three

Written Treatment

Once a pitch has been chosen fLO will then produce a written treatment. A written treatment is a roadmap to the final product. It breaks the video down into identifiable moments or scenes, it provides a written description of the shot(s), the length of time of the moment or scene, and a written description of the audio portion of the moment or scene.

The written treatment is given to the client for approval. Once approved, the production phase can begin.

Jerry Maya, Past President California Defense Investigators Association

We had quite a few stakeholders involved in the project. Having a written treatment in advance of production helped us with communication, understanding for all parties of what the finished product would be, and staying on track with our stated goals for our videos as we moved into the editing phase of the project.

"

Step Four

Filming

fLO works with your team on the logistics of filming. fLO can communicate all logistical needs to the client. fLO can provide you with waivers for your participants. fLO works with you on set to provide performance coaching.

Elizabeth Orcutt, Communications and Outreach Manager, Diablo Regional Arts Association

The filming experience for our project was well-organized, efficient and collaborative. We particularly appreciated fLO’s flexibility working with the schedules and abilities of our on-camera participants which included several VIPs to our organization.

Darlene Gayler, Owner, Gayler Design Build

Our project called for a large group scene and I had to bring in a lot of volunteers. I was concerned that the group might be bored or not have a pleasant time during the filming. To my surprise, there was a lot of laughter in the room. fLO went out of their way to make our participants feel valued and their contributions appreciated.

"

Step Five

1st Edit

fLO provides the client a rough edit of the video that is as close as possible to the written treatment, with all production variables taken into consideration. fLO will provide direction in order for you to manage the review process. After period of review the client submits a list of noted dislikes and or requested changes to fLO. If a meeting is necessary for clarification, then one will be scheduled. fLO provides a summary of changes and actions to be taken, in the form of a revision/action list that is sent to the client for review and approval. fLO makes changes and provides the final product in client requested file formats.

Michael Rigsby, Executive Director, St. Anne’s Village

The first edits of our videos were a good reflection of the written treatment we approved. fLO was able to accommodate the few changes we requested quickly and easily. Their expert suggestions for how to resolve issues helped us stay on track with our video goals and budget.

"

Step Six

FInal Edit

After a collaborative meeting to go through changes, a final edit will be created. You will also receive final files of your project in optimized file types for Facebook, YouTube, as well as 2 different sized mp4 files. Additional file types may be provided.

Gordana Zura, Communications Director, Contra Costa Court Appointed Special Advocates

Over the past 10 years, we have worked with a number of video companies, but fLO stands out  because of quality of the entire process, from start to finish. They understood really well our needs, patiently took us through the entire process, and provided well thought-out descriptions of each step. We are grateful to fLO that our gala raised more money this year than it ever has. We are looking forward to our continued collaboration with fLO on our video projects.

Testimonials

“John and Stephanie were able to weave together a compelling overview of all the areas our foundation covers … I think everyone in the room was smiling from start to finish during the video! And the result was our highest (by far) Raise the Paddle, bringing in $138,800! I cannot thank John and Stephanie enough for the wonderful job they did!”

Amy Parlett

Board President, Lafayette Partners in Education

“Thank you for all your hard work and amazing video. Your guidance and expertise will be critical as we move forward in our endeavors. “

Michael Rigsby

Executive Director, St. Anne Village

Stephanie and John are also awesome to work with and really bring out the best in you when shooting your video. Making a video is much harder than it looks. You definitely can’t go wrong with Stephanie there to coach you in front of the camera and with John’s technical skills in putting the video together. Thanks again fLO for expertise, your help, and advice along the way!
